Princess Mary Had the Dreamiest New Year’s Outfit, Ever

New Year’s Day isn’t a time for slouchy home clothes if you’re a royal, as evidenced by Denmark’s Princess Mary who picked a beyond-regal look for a meal at Amalienborg Palace. While I was in a plaid button-down and sweater at a buffet with my in-laws (true story), she was wearing a belted white gown complete with a dramatic tiara and velvet cape. It’s divine.

It’s the little things that keep the dress so perfect—the fabric and wrapped overlay make it look like it’s floating around her, and the bracelet-length sleeves show a flash of wrist, keeping the overall look light. And not to sound dramatic, but I adore it with royals wear traditional, from-the-safe family jewels. I was all about it the time Kate Middleton rocked a Zara statement necklace (remember?), but there’s something to be said for priceless pieces and the chains and badges that, I swear, look like they’re straight out of a BBC period drama.

How was your New Year’s? What did you wear?
