The Very Best Royal Style Moments of 2014

Royal families have been around for a long time, but it felt like this year was more stylish than most. I kicked off 2014 knowing that Kate Middleton could be counted on to provide chic outfits, but I’m happy to report that I’m ending the year with a lot of new friends (like Queen Letizia and Princess Ameerah).

It was a big year for Letizia, who started off as a princess and is ending as an official queen. For the coronation ceremony, she picked this embellished white coat dress that wasn’t over-the-top but still had the sort of glamour you need to appear queenly.

With her tour of Australia and New Zealand, Kate might’ve had her biggest fashion tour to date. It was chock-full of fantastic dresses, but the moment that really stuck out for me was when we saw how she could do beach-casual, picking this pretty white eyelet Zimmermann dress and wedges.

This was also the year I realized I have a major style crush on Queen Maxima of the Netherlands (and I’m not alone: she was named to Vanity Fair‘s best-dressed list). She grabbed my attention during a majorly stylish week traveling, but it was this smoky jade dress that I loved most. If a similar silhouette ever passes my radar, I’m buying it. Immediately.

We were all fascinated by the throwback feeling of this photo that showed Japanese princesses Yoko, Takamado, Tsuguko, and Noriko waiting near a plane with proper hats and white gloves in hand.

The most recent photos of Prince George are only the latest to prove that he’s pretty darn adorable. And while he’s got a fab wardrobe, the best thing I saw him in all year was his adorable George sweater (that, no surprise, caused a run on personalized baby sweaters).

If classic royal glamour is your thing, this one’s for you: Swedish royals Princesses Madeleine and Victoria attended a Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in gorgeous gowns complete with sashes and badges. Both were divine, but I loved the striking simplicity of Victoria’s red pick.

It was the littlest thing from this snap of Queens Letizia and Mathilde that left a big impression on me. Similar to Japan’s princesses, the ladies are both pulling a Grace Kelly move, wearing one glove and carrying the other beside their clutch. So ladylike.

Are you as obsessed with princesses as I am? Kate Middleton’s still your No. 1 fave—you voted her best-dressed royal.
